Poetry Is Good For Your Brain

Clare schoolwork joy

Okay. So I didn't really do any research to back up that claim, but I'm going to go with common mom sense and say it anyway. Why? Because anything that gets a 7 year old thinking metaphorically and descriptively in order to write something after being given a topic is just super awesome. It's certainly different from doing math drills and pouring over grammar rules.  Right? Poetry frees the mind.  For a kid, it's a break from the norm.  It's an outlet for expressing feelings without fear of offending, being wrong, or not being good enough. In poetry, all feelings, thoughts, and ideas are valid.  Encouraged in fact - and are just yelling to be shared. At The Car Wash

IMAG0436

We are quite lucky that when we bought our SUV, it came with "Free Lifetime Car Washes" at the dealer.  Not that this was the bribe that closed the deal, but if you're like me and don't particularly get around to washing your car often enough, then this perk was perfect. Penelope Chard has a doll named Molly. Molly is a spoiled little doll. Molly gets to wear any clothes she wants - even if it belongs to Berry Bites. Molly gets birthday parties everyday and eats cake for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. When Molly is not sleeping, she is having tea parties, riding unicorns, playing with her dogs, visiting her friends who speak with English accents, or creating great works of art (using markers). In fact, she is so spoiled that she's even allowed to wear (permanent) make-up at a (supposedly) tender age of 1. And she has her own teddy bear. Molly is ...continue reading

Soymilk Is Fun!

Dear Berry Bites, You are a toddler through and through.  To you, anything can become a wonderful toy.  My case in point: unopened soymilk cartons.  Just watch. I hope you never lose your imagination. Just....um...please don't spill the milk.  Spilt milk (or anything liquid) is a pet peeve of mine.  Otherwise, play on... ...continue reading

My kids make a lot of mess.  But if there's one thing I'm thankful for it's that they are creative. Here is a make-shift tunnel using sofa cushions, the sofa, and the coffee table. Where do they get these ideas?   ...continue reading
