He’s Awesome Like That

monday listicles

The Listmaster said to name 10 ways my partner's awesome. It occurred to me, while reading other people's posts, that I haven't really mentioned my hubby here very much.  Sure, I love my kids, this blog is about motherhood after all...but I think it's about time I wrote something more for the guy who helped make me a mother.  Right? Without further ado... My Husband is awesome because... 1.  He cooks better than I do - and it tastes really good!  Seriously, how many wives out there can admit their better is better in the kitchen arena? 2.  He keeps our plants alive.  It would be like a barren desert around here if it weren't for his green thumb. 3.  He changes the baby's diaper (#1 AND #2) when I ask him to.  He really deserves a medal for this.  Don't you think ...continue reading

The Perfect Man

perfect_man

I am using my powers of BILOCATION today.   Not only am I here with poetic inspiration for you, I am also at Greta's GFunkified talking about my great expectations as a SAHM and Homeschooler.  So go ahead and hop on over there to laugh at how terribly wrong my expectations were.....THEN, come on back and get your weekly dose of poetry.  ;) #2: June 12 The Perfect Man In 5 days, it will be Father's Day.  Almost every kid in the world will be shouting out how his or her father is "The Best Dad" ever.  Tie sales will go up 569%.  But what about you?  What qualifies as "The Perfect Father?"  Or, if you feel so inclined to share, what makes "The Perfect Man?" Yes, yes, I know.  No one is perfect.  But one can dream, right?  And besides, I have to brag that I do have someone ...continue reading

Share Your Love Of Poetry

vintage button poetry workshop 125x125 copy

Look everyone! A new button! Grab it from the sidebar when you do your post, k? Thanks! So....to remind everyone, April is National Poetry Month.  We are dedicating each week of April to Poetry.  Last week, we crawled blogland to find a new poet and shared that poet's work with our readers.  This week, we get to share some poetry a little closer to home. #3: April 17 Share Your Love of Poetry I know, you posting your poem is already sharing your love of poetry.  But I meant something different!  This week, I'd like you to try and convince other people to write a poem.  Who can you ask?  There's your significant other, your kids, (no, the dog doesn't count), neighbor, friends, your kids' friends, your mom, your dad, your grandma....get the idea?  The point is to get ...continue reading

Organize This!

Organize This

If you've ever been in my classroom, when I used to be a "regular" teacher, then you know that I organize everything that I own. From the compartmentalized pull-out shelf under the desk to the "every-chapter-must-be-tabbed" Teacher's Edition Textbooks, there was always an easy way to find anything in my room. The cool part about that was all of my students knew it too. Every time I created a new "system" of organization, they learned it and followed through. Now... since deciding to be a SAHM, I've found that organizing my own pantry just doesn't work out for me. I don't rightly know why, but I end up stuffing pretty much everything in it until I forget what's even inside. My wonderful husband to the rescue!!! Either he wanted to help me OR he was tired of not knowing ...continue reading

A Love Story

wedding

I am doing the impossible today!  (Which, afterwards, would make it possible because then, well, I did it.) In this post, I will do 3 prompts in one! My Poetry Workshop, Stasha's Monday Listicles, and Galit/Alison's Memories Captured. Yep.  Awesome, right? THE PROMPTS: Poetry Workshop: Write a story in the form of a poem.  Easy one, right?  Write a story from your life, a made up one, or any story you want!  This kinda makes me think of Dr. Seuss poems... Monday Listicles:  A list of 10 loves! Memories Captured:  February Memories I give you my mushy wedding photo, with 10 words of love around it, and underneath, a love story written in narrative verse! (If you wrote a poem this week - narrative or not - please do link up with us and play along!) A LOVE ...continue reading

I’m Not Leaving You

Just another car ride home from somewhere I don't even remember. And I don't remember exactly how the conversation started either. But I do remember this: (Cupcake is my eldest daughter's new nickname. You know how that goes...) Cupcake: Exactly when am I gonna be a teenager? Dad: Don't worry about it. Cupcake: Why? I just wanna know. Dad: Well, I don't want to know. Cupcake: What? Why?  It's not like I'm going to leave you or anything.  I mean, I'm not leaving until I want to, you know.  Like when I'm 50 or something. Dad: *stunned silence* ...continue reading

I Don’t Cook Turkey

mamakat

5.) Who is cooking the turkey you will be eating for Thanksgiving this year? Share a memory that makes you smile when you think of this person. I am afraid of explosions. No, I've never made a turkey explode, but if I tried cooking one, that's what would probably happen. We don't bake our turkey.  We deep fry it. And have you ever witnessed a gigantic turkey deep fried in volcano-hot oil before? It's scary! It's quite dangerous, so we do this feat outside, in the backyard.  And I stand about 50 feet away. Who's brave enough to do this? My husband! Yeah, so he cooks the turkey. And the stuffing... And the gravy... Candied yams... Pumpkin pie... What?  Did you just ask what I cook on Thanksgiving? Um...mashed potatoes?  Brownies? Really, I'm ...continue reading
