I went out with my eldest daughter today. Well, her and the baby – but you know, it’s not like the baby got to join in on our conversations.
We didn’t go anywhere grand or fancy. But we did go to a place that we both love. And that’s all that really matters, right? That it was a place that made both of us happy.
IKEA.
That place is heaven for us. We could spend all day there looking (oggling?) their showrooms, planning how we would redecorate our own rooms, and eating Swedish meatballs.
My husband and I have kind of been noticing how full our little house have been lately. Aside from the possible fire hazards in the hallways and stairs, the toys and books just waiting for ankles to break, overflowing kitchen shelves, and clothes all in hampers……are you getting the picture?…….we SERIOUSLY need some cleaning up and organizing around here!
Naturally, I thought I’d start us out by visiting IKEA. Organization. IKEA. They just go together, no? Yes.
I suspect my daughter will just have to keep enduring a couple more visits there with me in the next week. Maybe it’ll give her some ideas on how to organize HER room too. Of course, I’d have to approve her suggestions, but hey, she’ll have fun wishing for things, right?
At the very least, we can enjoy the meatballs.
Oh, and did you know that IKEA serves FREE BREAKFASTS AND COFFEE on Monday mornings ’til 11 am??? Me neither! I just incidentally found out earlier today.
And that, my friends, was how this mother-daughter (and baby) team had a wonderful morning.
I’m hoping for a repeat soon.
*This post is not sponsored by IKEA. (It would be nice if it was…) Anywho, I just really like that place.*

I love one on one (or two) time with my kids. Doesn’t really matter what we do, just getting some time without sibling distraction is always a bonus.

Sibling distraction is big around here. Especially when that sibling is a squirrel of a toddler. But yes, any small amount of time (alone) with any of the kids makes for one lucky day!
Ooh!! Free breakfast & Coffee in the Monday morning?? Sounds cool. I am going to try this for sure
. IKEA helped me a lot in redecorating my kitchen last time.

Have a cool time with your kids

Thanks. I you know they have free kids meal on Tuesdays, free dessert on Wednesdays, and something else cool on Thursdays? That ought to make your week.
Thanks a million Janice for the BREAKING NEWS
. The week is going to be my week for sure
Stay fine.

Love Ikea!! Pretty much my entire kitchen, minus appliances, is from Ikea.
I was just oggling some of their storage shelves the other day. I’ve got all these big items like Kitchen Aid Mixer, bread-maker, crock pot that don’t fit in the cupboards, so I have one corner reserved for an “appliance garage.” That’s the dream anyway,
You will show pics of any projects right? I’ll have to live vicariously through your Ikea Dreams coming true.

Appliance garage sounds like a wonderful idea. I’d love one. Oh wait – that would require big appliances, right? Someday…… Anywho, sure. You may live your IKEA dreams through me. I’ll send you pics – you know, when I get around to buying, assembling, and organizing everything?
I always enjoy to go out with my daughter. It something totally different when I go with my son; my daughter is just like a girlfriend for me… By the way, I don’t love her better or more than him, she’s just a girl and some things cannot be explained…

I understand what you mean about spending time with daughters – totally different from spending time with a son. The feelings and conversations are just…..different.
I must admit, I take my ‘girl’ to IKEA for dates, too…sometimes with no intention of buying anything, well maybe some votive candles, but not much, anyway. Last time we went to buy a bed with under-bed drawers for storage, and after eating, I took most of the day to put it together. But we’re very extravagant on dates. IKEA for lunch and then a movie, or being the first one in the door at Costco for a provolone/turkey sandwich and a mocha freeze, she has the gourmet Polish dog with a churro and drink. Real extravagance is Five Guys burgers, and a 3 D movie matinee.
It’s nice to have dates with your children while they’re young…

A date anywhere with mom or dad is awesome enough for kids. They are definitely easier to please at this age, no?
Love your date ideas. We love Costco too. As for movies, we don’t watch much. We wait for them to be on DVD, Redbox, Netflix, or Amazon. Don’t laugh. I’m hesitate to pay anymore $$ for movie tickets nowadays. Do you remember when they used to cost less than $5?! Craziness.
We don’t watch much either, but it’s more because of content. In the last 6 months we’ve seen For Greater Glory, Brave in 3D, Finding Nemo in 3D, 2016 (the movie about Obama) and The Way. All of them entailed some aspect of faith that I wanted to explore. We were appalled when we spent $20 for two 3D tix…
I remember when it was about $3, kiddo…Heck, I believe that, when my mom and dad took me to see “The Sound of Music”, it may have cost $10 for the three of us, including popcorn and a drink. Of course, that was in the days when they had an intermission during the movie.
We had a ‘date’ with my grandson, and another grandson ( you know how everyone who’s your grandmother’s level is Lolo/Lola? We went to pick him up in Davis, and take him home for home made sinegang, and his cousin came, too. It was funny, this was the first time my grandson actally called us from school and asked if he could come over (with no intervention from his mother). He just wanted to spend time with Lola…We had fun watching the Al Smith speeches on YouTube.

That’s a lot of movies in 6 months. I rarely set foot in a movie theatre anymore. Not just because of the ridiculous fees, but also because of our kids.
And as an aside, I’ve never seen a movie with intermission. A play, yes. But a movie? No. Just how old are you anyway? LOL. Just kidding. You don’t have to answer that.
Ah, YouTube. I could spend hours on that thing if I didn’t set a timer for myself. Lots of good stuff. Have you ever watched “Word On Fire” with Fr. Barron? I highly recommend his channel. Great stuff, my friend. Great stuff.
