So….to remind everyone, April is National Poetry Month. We are dedicating each week of April to Poetry. Last week, we crawled blogland to find a new poet and shared that poet’s work with our readers. This week, we get to share some poetry a little closer to home.
#3: April 17
Share Your Love of PoetryI know, you posting your poem is already sharing your love of poetry. But I meant something different! This week, I’d like you to try and convince other people to write a poem. Who can you ask? There’s your significant other, your kids, (no, the dog doesn’t count), neighbor, friends, your kids’ friends, your mom, your dad, your grandma….get the idea? The point is to get one (or as many as you can) to write something. A simple rhyme, a free verse, something wierd, anything! The more, the merrier! Let’s spread the love!
I give you….poetry from my daughter, nephew, daughter’s Godfather, and my husband.

In My Heart Forever
by my 7 y.o. daughter, Cupcake
My baby brother so sporty and active will stay in my heart forever,
As I play with him and teach him words,
Because I love my baby brother…
My toddler sister so cute and proud will stay in my heart forever,
When I look at her while I work,
Because I love my toddler sister…
Mom and Dad,
I love you so much,
You will remain in my heart forever.

Fishhook Jitters
by my nephew, Huy
line, squirming, bait
waiting in anticipation.
hot, silence, rocking
waiting in anticipation.
quivering, adrenaline, thrill
waiting in anticipation

To Which I Can Compare Your Beauty
(A birthday poem for Mary, Mother of God.)
by my daughter’s Godfather, Peter
To which I can compare your beauty
Is never seen nor touched
The stars are an impressive sight at night
But pleases my eyes not much
The ocean, reflecting the sun’s bright shine,
Is a divine sight to see
But when compared to your beauty
It never purifies me
Mount Olympus,Full of goddesses,
May lure many men
However, by your side,
Their beauty is denied
And human myths
Turned realized goddesses
Flowers,
Blossoming in the month of May,
May display a striking scene
But when you appear
All disappear
And everything else loses
What it means
To which I can compare your beauty
To which does not exist,
Except to the Rose
That grows within me
Every time your beauty
My eyes behold.

I’ll Always Love You
by my beloved Husband
I’ll always love you
though the blades of grass bend down
near the wellspring of our joy
and sunlight dampens across years of shadow
we’ll recall that red moon’s cooing
in the parade of sky we borrowed wonder from
we watered our bamboo, the shade of days
spread like the glow of dawn
with no heed for rocks or concrete walls
or infatuations tattered by truth
we’ll open our eyes to dream
a silent dream of sight
surprised to see the morning
hiding in the heart.

Next Week’s Prompt
#4: April 24
The Gift of PoetryYou are a master of words. But with great power comes great responsibility, right? Of course you knew that. That’s why we use poerty to make beautiful masterpieces. So, as the master of your art, show your generosity by giving someone the gift of poetry. This week, write a poem for one or all of the member/s of your immediate family. And yes, you may write one for your pet too. And if you’re feeling really generous, heck, write one for anyone else you’d like!

nice….love that you got your fam to write poetry….what fun…ha…love the sentiments in your bubby’s too…that made me smile…always good to see a spouse still in love…

I was glad they joined in. And I didn’t even have to twist their arm!
But I was really happy my husband wrote one…it’s been a long time since he’s written one. Been so busy….

Lovely! Cupcake seems to be a chip off the old poetry block, with you AND your husband being such great writers. Amazing!
I’m a wee bit behind this week, thanks to hockey and such (we won last night so we aren’t out for the count yet) but I’m hoping to get linked up tonight. *crossing fingers*

I hope you can link up too. I would love to hear from your little ones!
Janice, what a talented group you have around you! I have to say, Huy should regularly submit 3-word ideas to Three Word Wednesday, because that’s the heart of the prompt: Three words, make a poem out of them.
Your husband is a keeper. That’s all I’ll say other than this: His eloquence is eclipsed only by his love for you. It shows so sweetly!
Peace, Amy

Thanks. I am blessed to have such talented people around me. I will have to tell Huy about Three Words Wednesday. I think he has a tumblr account…
And I showed your comment to my husband. Thanks. You made him blush.
