How wonderful to have you all back again. It has been a wonderful and challenging month, but thank you for helping to share some Poetry love!
For National Poetry Month, we’ve used inspirations from a word or a quote, discovered other poets, and asked other people to write poetry. Lots of amazing talents out there.
This week, we will wrap up the month with promt #4:
#4: April 24
The Gift of PoetryYou are a master of words. But with great power comes great responsibility, right? Of course you knew that. That’s why we use poerty to make beautiful masterpieces. So, as the master of your art, show your generosity by giving someone the gift of poetry. This week, write a poem for one or all of the member/s of your immediate family. And yes, you may write one for your pet too. And if you’re feeling really generous, heck, write one for anyone else you’d like!
For My Daughters
Monsters and Angels
The clatter of little feet
brings my attention to the ground
as I look down to see
a little monster looking at me.
Then a sudden noise
reaches my ears
as I turn to my right
to see the monster’s sister playing with the light.
Two little monsters keep me running around
and spending my all my energy
as I try to do a million things
and stay a sane being.
But my monsters aren’t always like that
and mostly they’re pretty angelic
especially when they play together
and the house is full of their laughter.
The sound of a little voice
brings me down to the ground
as a little angel says, “Mom?” to me
I instantly melt like honey.
Then a sudden tug
I feel on my shirt
as I turn to the right
and see another angel with eyes so bright.
Two little angels keep me running around
and spending all my energy
as they do all their best
to make me holy!

For My Son
Rock Me To Sleep
Rock me to sleep
on the strings of a light breeze
where it travels through forests
and cool bubbling streams.
Sing as I slumber
on the leaves of your song
so I can dream of snowflakes
and diamonds and pearls.
Sway with the unheard beat
of the wings of a moonbeam
to calm my fretting heart
and bring me peace.
**********
For My Husband
You
the lighthouse on a stormy day
the GPS to lead the way
the key to the right door
the wind to help me soar
the words to a song
the right for my wrong
the gentle breeze passing by
the candy to my eye
the steady bridge
the strong mountain
the sharp arrow
the playful fountain
the pillow for my troubles
the reminder to be humble
the mop to clean my mess
the no to my yes
the unlimited lifeline
the tastiest wine
the sun that makes me warm
the voice that keeps me calm
YOU

Have you written a poem for someone lately?

Monsters and Angels says so much. It’s so true. They are monsters and angels. It’s amazing how quick they can change at times.
This has been an interesting month of writing and I know I’ve missed a lot due to my health issues. But I’m hoping this coming month will be a “healthier” month for me and I won’t get behind on things. I miss writing and hanging out with ya’ll.
They do change so quickly don’t they? But we know all their tricks, that’s why we know when it’s a fake cry and whine! Haha!
I hope the next month will be a healthier one for you too. It would be a nice Mother’s Day gift, no?
smiles…i have 2 monsters of my own…and they melt my heart too…even when they are monsters…these were heart warming….

Thank you. I hesitate to call them monsters, but sometimes I can’t help but feel grumpy. You know what I mean?

Parenthood, married life, both are – to take an overused metaphor – a rollercoaster. While the dips may be pretty low, the altitude of those highs can give you a nosebleed! Whatever it is, one should sit back, strap in, and enjoy the ride.

I agree. Lows and highs happen everyday around here…That’s why I drink coffee!
great job!
Thanks! :*
These poems are great! It really shows your affection for your family.
On another note, I find myself unable to write any creative work lately. It seems that I am now more inclined in expressing myself through visual arts.

Thank you. My family is my main inspiration.
And nothing wrong with visual art. Maybe you can someday combine the two. That’s what I do when I do digital scrapboking!
Thanks for sending me your blog address, as I did find it on your Google Plus. I enjoyed your family poems. Well written with so much love. Children grow up so quickly. Enjoy those childhood years.
I meant to say ‘did NOT find it.’
no worries!
You’re welcome. Thank you for not giving up on visiting my page!

Very nice to meet you and your talent. These all sound heartfelt, and heartfelt messages always produce the most impact. Nice write, Janice.
Thank you. I think every poem comes from the heart – be they dark or light. The heart is where all creative tendencies should start!
